Valheim Armour Calculator: Damage Taken and Hits Survived

How much a hit actually takes off through your armour, and how many of them you live through — the question behind every decision to enter a new biome.

The total on your character sheet, not one piece. It rises with the quality level of each piece, so upgrade in-game before reading it off.

Before armour. A two-star creature hits considerably harder than the base version of the same thing.

Zero if you are not blocking. Block power comes off before armour does its work, which is why a shield beats armour against one big hit.

Unfed, no food active. Change it if your version differs.

Armour needed to halve that damage On the dividing branch, halving the damage takes twice the armour. Below it, one point of armour still subtracts one point of damage. 58

The formula is community-derived. Iron Gate has never published it; this is the curve players measured, and it has changed between versions. Check one real hit against it before trusting it with a run.

The two branches are the whole story. While your armour is under half the incoming hit it simply subtracts, so a big hit goes almost straight through. Cross that line and it starts dividing, and armour becomes very good very quickly.

Blocking beats armour against one big hit, because block power comes off before armour is applied. A parry against a troll is worth more than any armour rating you can have at that stage.
